How Do I...
For teachers who need to renew their teaching certification, requests for recertification need to be processed through the Michigan Department of Education online certification renewal system, Michigan Online Educator Certification System (MOECS). Please visit the following link to process your certification renewal request:
Michigan Department of Education Online Educator Certification System
Information about recertification can be found by visiting the Michigan Department of Education website for Certification at the following link:
Michigan Department of Education - About Teacher Certification
There is a link under that webpage noted Frequently Asked Questions which is a good resource for questions you might have. The State of Michigan has made changes to what type of Professional Development training can be used for recertification.
Teaching professionals are allowed to use District-Provided Professional Development (DPPD) hours towards recertification. Effective July 1, 2020, all District Provided Professional Development hours are being submitted to the State of Michigan via SCECHs hours through the Curriculum Department. Any DPPD hours earned prior to July 1, 2020 need to be entered in MOECS by instructional staff. In addition, staff members need to submit a DPPD form to the Human Resources department for approval.
If you need any further assistance in processing your certification renewal, please call Human Resources at 810.225.3908.
