We preach family and community in everything we do here at PCS and this morning was a great example of this as HS seniors, along with the Pinckney Pirate himself, Rick Beaudin, spent time with our Farley Hill 3rd graders, talking about hard work, passion, inspiration and always doing your best in preparation for the upcoming M-STEP assessments.

Came across these poems this morning regarding our community from students at Farley Hill Elementary and thought they were too cute not to share.

We are excited to announce that Pinckney Community Schools has been awarded $241,418 as part of the 2019 Competitive School Safety Grant Program, which was sponsored by the Michigan State Police. Overall, $25 million was distributed to schools across the state and I am happy to say that Pinckney was one of the biggest recipients.
The plan that was submitted for the grant detailed a security plan that will help secure and monitor every door, in every school with security cameras that will not only focus on each entry/exit way, but will be equipped with door sensory equipment and software that will notify us immediately when a door is opened. Overall, the grant will help us purchase approximately 200 new cameras (both interior and exterior), door sensory equipment/software and two servers that will help monitor the activity on our network.
This will be a great compliment to our existing buzz in systems that were installed this year and have been working great. However, we are going to continue to look at ways to make sure our schools are as safe as we can make them, while continuing to maintain the balance of being welcoming environments for our students, parents, staff and community.
I would like to personally thank Navigator principal, Janet McDole, for her hard work and diligence in helping develop this plan, working alongside the Livingston County crisis response team and for all the time and energy it takes to complete a grant of this magnitude.
I have included a link to an article that provides a list of all the schools that were awarded a portion of the $25 million.

Wanting to wish our entire school community a happy spring break as we look forward to your return on April 1 (and that is no joke!)

Thank you to Mrs. Allen at Country El. for inviting me to their student book club to present their digital presentations on the book "The one and only Ivan". The passion these students have for reading is inspiring and they make me want to learn more about Ivan the Gorilla!

Happy 1st Day of Spring from Pinckney Community Schools! That mud looks all too familiar to many of us living here in the Pinckney-Hamburg area and yes Mr. Winter, we know you will be back, just make sure it isn't until next December!

Couldn't be more proud of our PCHS students as they are presenting this afternoon at the Capitol to Senator Lana Theis and her committee on the dangers of vaping and the need for Legislative regulations as part of "Students Leading Students". Love seeing our youth advocate for themselves and the well being of others.

Had a great time this afternoon joining our vibrant senior community for a St. Patrick's Day potluck luncheon. I so appreciate spending time with some of our most valuable community assets and resources. -Supt. Rick Todd

Congratulations to our Pinckney Pirate, Larry Prout, who was given the Livingston County United Way's award for being the 2018 Young Person of Distinction. So proud of you Larry as you are an inspiration to
us all!

Congratulations to Jacob Wilburn, who will be receiving a scholarship to be part of the Alma Esports program playing League of Legends this fall! Jacob is the first ever PCHS student to receive an esports scholarship! He will be pursuing a degree in Alma's new Video Game Design program.

This 120 Day of School project at Country Elementary brought back so many childhood memories with these plastic army men. I was soooo tempted to start playing "War" right there in the kindergarten pod. - Supt. Rick Todd #oldschooltoysrule

Love seeing the excitement and energy in our schools during March is Reading month. Today, I got to judge so many decorated doors at Navigator, so tough to pick a winner! - Supt. Rick Todd

Dr. Jim Darga (Director of Cyber Security Institute) is doing great things for our district, county and state as he builds partnerships with businesses and schools. Earlier this week, Dr. Darga shared our new partnership with Anchor Bay School district at the Cybersecurity: Defense Sector Summit in which PCS will be providing cyber-security classes virtually with high school teacher, Rich Lamb (on stage) facilitating the learning. Although we are excited about this, we are even more excited for what is to come....

When it comes to funding education, many ask the question "Why do schools need more money, they are already getting all the Lottery money?" Looking at the graph, one will see the Lottery money only accounts for 7% of the SAF (School Aid Fund). Coincidentally, the other pie chart shows that 7% of the SAF goes to funding community colleges and universities, which are able to raise tuition to cover costs, unlike public schools. So it actually seems that the 7% Lottery money really goes to supporting higher education and not K-12 as advertised.

Congrats to Noelle Adriens for signing with MSU as she will be a great asset to their track program, in addition to being a great scholar.

I am so proud to be working alongside our Board of Education team who is willing to spend their day in Lansing learning about school finance and the mounting challenges facing education in Michigan. -Supt. Rick Todd #pinckneyleaders

The second LAN party fundraiser of the year is another huge success! Super Smash Ultimate, Fortnite, League of Legends, Overwatch, and other games are being played throughout the high school media. BIG thanks to Jet's Pizza, Pinckney Bakery, and Busch's for the food donations.

Another PCS Alum doing great things!
